How do I calculate a tip?+
Multiply your bill by the tip percentage (e.g. 20% = bill × 0.20). Add that to your bill for the total. Our calculator does this instantly — just enter your bill amount and select a tip percentage.
What is a good tip percentage?+
15% is considered standard, 18–20% is good for solid service, and 25%+ is great for exceptional service. For takeout, 10–15% is common. Use the buttons above to try different amounts.
How do I split a tip between multiple people?+
Enter the number of people in the 'split between' field. The calculator will divide both the tip and the total equally, showing each person's share.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?+
Etiquette varies — tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is technically correct, but most people tip on the post-tax total for simplicity. Both are acceptable.
How do I tip on a large group bill?+
